Every once in a while, I pull something from storage that makes me wonder about the story it had before it found its way to me.

This extraordinary necklace was discovered among a collection of older costume jewelry samples that had been packed away in storage for years. I’m slowly working my way through the collection—cataloging, photographing and bringing these unusual forgotten pieces back into the light.
This one immediately stood out.
There is something wonderfully celestial about the design. The mottled round beads look like tiny planets, surrounded by textured circular elements reminiscent of moons, orbits and eclipses. Small metal stars dangle throughout the necklace, giving the entire piece the feeling of a miniature universe.
The warm reddish-brown chain, antique-toned metal, creamy striped accent beads and earthy marbled spheres give it an almost ancient, mystical quality. It feels equal parts celestial, bohemian and fortune teller—with just a touch of wonderfully theatrical Hocus Pocus energy.
At approximately 24 inches long, this is a true statement necklace. The abundance of suspended beads, stars and sculptural elements creates beautiful movement and texture while still maintaining an earthy, organic palette.
The necklace retains its original “Made in India” tag. The maker and exact age are unknown, so I prefer not to assign it a date that I cannot verify. It appears to be an older sample/deadstock costume jewelry piece that had been stored rather than regularly worn.
It has not been aggressively polished or restored. Any variations in finish, patina or signs of age have been left as part of the character of the piece.
For someone who loves jewelry that doesn’t look like everything else, this one is special—a forgotten little universe waiting to be worn again.
